Saint

St. Maximilian Kolbe

St. Maximilian Kolbe was a Franciscan, Marian missionary, and martyr of charity.

Biography

St. Maximilian Kolbe was born in Poland and entered the Franciscan Order. He lived strong devotion to the Immaculate Virgin and used media to proclaim Christ and form the faithful.

During the Second World War, he was imprisoned in Auschwitz and gave his life in place of another prisoner. The Church remembers him as a martyr of charity, a witness of love amid extreme dehumanization.

Kolbe inspires us to consecrate talents to evangelization, love Mary as a path to Christ, and choose the good even when selfishness seems easier.
