Introduction
The Holy Spirit Novena prepares the heart to receive God's light. These original texts ask for the gifts of the Spirit soberly, without replacing the Church's liturgical prayer.
How to pray this novena
Pray for nine days asking the Holy Spirit for light for the mind and docility for the will. Read the meditation, pray the daily prayer, and practice one concrete step.
- Make the sign of the cross.
- Present your intention.
- Pray the opening prayer.
- Follow the day card: indicated prayer, meditation, prayer of the day, and practical step.
- End with the closing prayer.
Opening prayer
Novena days
Day 1 - Come, Holy Spirit
- Pray the prayer of the day
To invoke the Holy Spirit is to recognize that intelligence and effort are not enough; we need grace that guides and strengthens.
Begin prayer by asking for light before analyzing your problems.
Day 2 - Gift of Wisdom
- Pray the prayer of the day
Wisdom helps us see life from God's perspective, not only from immediate usefulness.
Ask which option draws you closer to God and charity.
Day 3 - Gift of Understanding
- Pray the prayer of the day
To understand is not to control everything. It is to receive enough light to walk with faith and responsibility.
Write the facts separately from fears and imaginations.
Day 4 - Gift of Counsel
- Pray the prayer of the day
The Holy Spirit also speaks through prudent counsel, especially when we do not want to listen only to ourselves.
Seek a prudent person to discuss your decision.
Day 5 - Gift of Fortitude
- Pray the prayer of the day
The light received needs courage to become decision. Fortitude sustains the good when it costs.
Take one step you know is right, even if small.
Day 6 - Gift of Knowledge
- Pray the prayer of the day
Spiritual knowledge helps us recognize creation, facts, and our own life as places where God can be served.
Notice one concrete fact you had been avoiding.
Day 7 - Gift of Piety
- Pray the prayer of the day
Piety makes us live as children, not as slaves of fear. God is Father and educates the heart.
Pray today by calling God Father with simplicity.
Day 8 - Fear of the Lord
- Pray the prayer of the day
Fear of the Lord is not panic but loving reverence that avoids playing with evil and despising grace.
Set aside one choice that weakens your spiritual life.
Day 9 - Docility to the Spirit
- Pray the prayer of the day
The novena concludes with surrender: allowing the Holy Spirit to guide decisions, words, and affections.
Choose one practice to continue invoking the Holy Spirit daily.

Common questions
Can I pray at any time of day?
Yes. Choose a realistic time and pray attentively. Keeping the same time helps, but it is not required.
I missed a day. Do I need to start over?
Not necessarily. Resume where you stopped and continue calmly.
Can I pray for another person?
Yes. Present that person to God and pray with trust, always respecting freedom and God's will.
Can I present more than one intention?
Yes. If it helps, choose one main intention and place the others with it at the beginning of prayer.
Do I have to pray the novena on exactly 9 consecutive days?
The ideal is to pray for 9 consecutive days, but if there is an interruption, resume without turning it into a burden.
